Specialist insurance company Markel International is looking to boost its profitability and add to its product line-up with a shake-up of its underwriting department in Spain.

The department will now be split into two main business areas: personal accident and liability.

Meanwhile, personal accident will continue to be led by Luis Bodaño and the liability area will be led by Adrián Benito, who has been appointed liability manager.

In his new role, Adrián will be in charge of reinforcing the liability underwriting function by creating new products as well as developing the business in a profitable and efficient manner.

Adrián has over 20 years’ experience in the Spanish insurance sector. He started his career in the sales department of Plus Ultra and later moved to the liability department. In 2001, he joined Reale Seguros as liability manager with the objective of developing the liability lines. He later joined WR Berkley in 2012 as underwriting manager, covering professional indemnity, D&O and general liability, a position he held until June 2016.

Adrián has a BA degree in Economics & Business Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid and has a Master in Management of Insurance Companies by ICEA.
