Matt Donnelly is preparing for double duty as the managing director of Griffiths & Armour Insurance Brokers is set to become the chairman of Assurex Global.

Donnelly boasts more than 30 years’ experience in international risk management and insurance and has been a partner at Griffiths & Armour, which employs more than 200 people in the UK and Ireland, since 2001 before becoming the managing director of its general insurance division back in 2003. In addition, he became a founding partner of GAWS of London in 2015 and is now to continue in his current roles while becoming chairman of Assurex Global, the world’s largest privately held commercial insurance, risk management and employee benefits brokerage group.

“We’re pleased to welcome Matt as our chairman and look forward to his leadership as we build on the exciting momentum we’ve achieved in all parts of the world during the past several years,” said Jim Hackbarth, president and CEO of Assurex Global. “Matt has done an excellent job of guiding our activities across EMEA for the past two years and has contributed significantly to our strategic direction worldwide.”

Donnelly currently serves on the board of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Insurance Broking Facility and, prior to working at Griffiths & Armour, was at Willis from 1987-2000. He was also president of the CII in Liverpool and is looking forward to his new challenge.

“I am very pleased and feel honoured to be appointed as the chairman of Assurex Global,” he said. “In the current business environment in which connectivity in all aspects is an essential feature, being able to work with 20,000 colleagues in more than 600 offices across the world reinforces the most powerful and essential component of our industry; our people.”
