A new group director of underwriting has joined Pioneer Underwriters, the underwriting group within Minova Insurance Holdings, the company announced today.

Graeme Rayner has commenced his new role with the firm, having joined from MS Amlin after being appointed in August.
Rayner served as chief underwriting officer of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Underwriting (MSIG) and as active underwriter of MSIG’s Lloyd’s Syndicate 3210 prior to Mitsui Sumitomo’s acquisition of Amlin.

Before joining MSIG in 2011, Rayner was managing director of QBE’s specialty division.

In his new role at Pioneer, Rayner will report into Darren Doherty, chief executive officer.

Doherty described it as a “pleasure” to have Rayner on board, adding: “Graeme will play a pivotal role in executing Pioneer’s strategy of international growth built through leveraging our first class business infrastructure and high quality underwriting talent.”

Rayner said he was “excited” to have joined Pioneer and to be working with an excellent team.

He went on to say: “Pioneer’s model is truly differentiated and it stands out as agile and dynamic in a market where those characteristics are getting harder to identify.  I am looking forward to working with our great team of underwriters to build upon the business and to offer even more to our brokers, clients and carriers.”
