Pioneer Underwriters has announced the immediate appointment of Denise Cea Katz as the firm’s vice president of business development.

Based in New York, Katz will lead marketing and business development efforts to promote the individual and collective underwriting offering of Pioneer Special Risk (PSR), the company’s underwriting platform in the US.

Katz will also be responsible for enhancing US distribution across all of Pioneer’s business lines as part of the group’s global expansion strategy.

“Pioneer Special Risk has a deserved reputation as an increasingly significant player in the international insurance market,” said Katz, who will report directly to PSR chief executive Gene Hinman.

Katz most recently served as director of global business development at Markel Corporation, where she identified areas of growth optimization for the international insurance division across regions and broker specialties.

Before joining Markel, Katz was a reinsurance broker at Aon Benfield. She has been in the re/insurance industry for more than 25 years.

“Denise brings exactly the right experience to advance Pioneer’s strategy of international growth while overseeing the continued success of this platform,” Hinman said.
