The brokerage giant has snapped up the QBE Europe veteran to replace Paul Fairhurst, who becomes chairman for the North West. Fletcher, who was with QBE for a decade, will be responsible for driving growth at Gallagher’s Manchester operation and further building out client capabilities in the region.

“I’m incredibly excited to join Gallagher at a time when it has transformed itself through acquisition and integration into a regional broking powerhouse right across the UK,” commented the branch director. “I’m looking forward to getting to know our clients, ensure local businesses know the breadth and depth of what Gallagher has to offer and working with a great team in Manchester to develop and grow this business.”

Fairhurst, on the other hand, will continue working with clients and assist in developing strategic M&A opportunities. The North West chair, also tasked to build Gallagher’s regional profile, has been the local president for Manchester of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce since June 2017.

“With significant opportunities for both organic and inorganic growth, the North West is a real area of focus for Gallagher’s strategic expansion in the UK,” said UK retail chief executive Michael Rea. “As we continue to invest in building out our regional presence and capabilities, James will make a fantastic leader for our team in Manchester. Not only is he well-known in the local insurance market, but his energy, enthusiasm, and track record of total client focus means he is a great cultural fit for Gallagher.”

The Manchester operation houses specialists in trade credit, employee benefits, wealth management, claims, and compliance. It also has a 40-strong regional broking team looking after a diverse portfolio of clients.
