Swinton branches to drop to less than 60

Insurance News

Last year saw quite a shake-up at Swinton Group’s insurance business, which was relaunched after unveiling plans for massive job cuts and branch closures. Apparently the firm isn’t done axing people.

A report by Manchester Evening News said staff had been told about 40 branches being closed, which would put nearly 270 jobs on the line. It was not specified which branches across the UK are impacted.

“Our distribution model continues to evolve so that we meet the changing needs of our customers in an effective and efficient way,” a Swinton spokesperson was quoted as saying. “While these changes are always difficult for colleagues, especially those who are directly impacted by the proposals, they are vital if we are to remain competitive in a challenging insurance market.”

The likes of area district managers and customer service managers are said to be among those at risk of being let go. All in all, this latest move will bring Swinton Insurance’s branches and employees down to 59 and around 1,600, respectively.

Much of the blame has been put on customers’ preference to transact business online instead of in physical branches.
