British hockey stars Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh (pictured), the first same-sex married couple to win Olympic gold on the same team, will impart wisdom to various diversity and inclusion groups from the insurance industry to mark International Women’s Day next week.

The pair will speak to 360 insurance and reinsurance executives in the City of London on March 7 at an event called “Olympic golden couple Kate and Helen – what can the insurance market learn from them.”

The sell-out event will focus on linking women’s success in sports and business. It will discuss the lessons from the couple’s experience and how the values of teamwork, diversity and inclusion can be transferred to the insurance industry.

“We are delighted to be invited to talk to these influential groups who are leading the way in the insurance market,” said Kate Richardson-Walsh. “We hope our insights into our success on the pitch will help women striving for equality and also help the industry know that same-sex couples are a normal part of the fabric of society.”

Several women’s groups in the market are hosting the event along with Lloyd’s, which has been working to promote diversity and inclusion in the industry.

“I want Lloyd’s and the wider market to be a place where women know they can be themselves and succeed based on their talent and ability,” said Lloyd’s of London CEO Inga Beale. “This event shows how we can be successful when we accept people for what they bring to the team and by extension, to the workplace.”
