Insurance giant Zurich has appointed Conor Brennan as the new head of its general insurance business in the UK.

Brennan will succeed Vibhu Sharma, the current general insurance business leader and UK country head who is set to leave Zurich.

Taking up his new role by the end of July, Brennan will report to Gary Shaughnessy, the interim CEO for the combined UK life and general insurance businesses.

“I’ve long admired our fantastic and well-established GI business in the UK, and I’m looking forward to leading it into the next phase of its development and playing my part in aligning it more fully with the life business,” Connor said.

Brennan has been with Zurich since 2008, currently serving as CEO of the group’s general insurance business in Ireland.

The latest changes follow Zurich’s announcement last month that it is combining its life and general insurance businesses under common leadership within all the countries or territories in which it operates.

Zurich said the new and more streamlined structure will reduce complexities and will allow better interaction with distributors and customers.

“This new structure will make it easier for our partners and customers to do business with us,” Shaughnessy said.

“We have strong market positions across Life and General Insurance and I look forward to continuing to build our position in the UK market.”
