A former insurance worker from Cardiff who admitted being part of the Islamic State terror group has been jailed for eight years.

Samata Ullah, 34, pleaded guilty to five terrorism offences, which included being an ISIS member, preparing acts of terror, terrorist training and two charges of possessing terrorist material. He was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court last Friday, media reports said.

According to Sky News, Ullah was a cyber terrorist who created online instructions on how to build explosives and avoid detection by the authorities. He stored these manuals and extremist material in USB sticks disguised as cufflinks.

Police found 60 of these USB sticks inside Ullah’s bedroom and seized 150 devices during a raid of his home in October, the report said.

Commander Dean Haydon, head of the Met’s counter terrorism unit, described Ullah as a “very dangerous individual.”

“He provided a one-stop-shop for terrorists around the world to access,” Haydon was quoted as saying by Sky News. “He provided a library of propaganda material, relating primarily to Daesh (Islamic State).

“He provided instruction and guidance in relation to accessing weapons and weapons systems and as a result, we know terrorists around different parts of the world did actually access this material and found his website extremely useful.”
