Marine insurer North P&I Club has appointed Dawn Robinson as global director of people.

Robinson will work with the senior operations team to focus on delivering a leadership and development programme for the club’s 370 staff over the next 18 months. Succession planning and recruitment requirements will also be part of the agenda as North moves from consolidation to modest growth.

“This is a fantastic role, which will allow me to build on my global experience while working closely with the teams based locally in Newcastle. I have worked in similar cultures whereby we all have the same service-orientated values which are reflected in the loyalty of staff and low turnover,” commented Robinson on the appointment, which comes following Helen Henderson’s retirement.

Robinson – who was with Nomad Digital, Sage PLC, and Outotec – continued: “I’m truly excited to be joining such a long-standing business that has people front of mind and a clear service purpose to support its ship-owner members.”

Joint managing director Alan Wilson said a focus on leadership, development, and on-going change management will form a natural remit for Robinson as they are aligned to her previous experience in a number of UK and international appointments.

“We are delighted to have her on-board at this exciting time in our development. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Helen for her hard-work and service over the last 14 years. She has been an extremely valuable member of the team and we wish her well in her retirement,” commented Wilson.

The firm’s people & corporate services department – located in Newcastle upon Tyne – comprises human resources, payroll & benefits, and office services. More than 250 of North’s staff are based at the Newcastle Quayside headquarters.
