The Guernsey Financial Services Commission has granted global wholesale insurance and reinsurance broker Ed a commercial insurance intermediary license.

Directing the expansion on the island is newly appointed divisional director of professional & executive risks Nick Bachmann. As former executive director at Willis Towers Watson, he managed the firm’s financial & professional risks offering in the Channel Islands.

Taking up his role at Ed immediately, Bachmann will work closely with other experts in the Channel Islands’ markets: Mark Lowndes, Mike Fraser, Kevin White, Greg Smith, James Faith, and Neal Hughes.

Bachmann will report to professional & executive risks director James Baird, who said obtaining a license in Guernsey is indicative of the Ed strategy and of how the broker will build its professional & executive risks business.

“This allows us to offer clients in this important, international financial centre direct access to global capacity and expertise while delivering solutions locally,” he added.

Commenting on Bachmann’s appointment, Baird said: “Nick’s local expertise and understanding of international financial markets makes him the ideal candidate to drive our aspirations in Guernsey. I am very pleased to welcome him to the team.”

Ed, the eighth-largest Lloyd’s broker, has offices in London, Beijing, Dubai, Hong Kong, Miami, Paris, Rayleigh, Shanghai, and Singapore.
