A 30-year insurance veteran has been tapped by a specialist underwriter to lead the strategic direction and expansion of its proposition for SMEs, and take regional leadership for London & the South East.

Jason Wilson has been appointed by Pen Underwriting as regional director for London & South East and the head of SME in its commercial division.

Wilson has almost 30 years of industry experience in both commercial and personal lines insurance. Before joining the specialist underwriter, he held a variety of roles in national and regional strategic development and portfolio management at Zurich and RSA.

At Zurich, he was most recently the UK head of regional and national broker, and also served as the insurer’s head of SME development leading multi-site teams across the UK for five years. Before that, he led a national team as UK SME schemes and deals manager at RSA.

“Jason’s extensive experience and track record in delivering profitable, sustainable growth — at both a national and portfolio level — equip him well to drive forward the development of Pen’s SME proposition,” said Nick Wright, managing director of Pen Underwriting’s commercial division.

“The buying habits, needs, and exposures of SMEs continue to evolve in a highly competitive market, demanding a responsive and refreshed offering from technical underwriters who are keen to trade, tailor their offerings and add real value. That’s where Pen can deliver a differentiated proposition and Jason will provide strong leadership.”
