Insurance Department hits administrator with cease and desist order

The Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) has issued a Cease and Desist Order to WH Administrators, Inc. of Bethesda, MD. WH Administrators is licensed in Mississippi as a nonresident insurance producer and has been administering self-funded health insurance plans in the state.

MID received complaints and significant documented evidence from insureds and medical providers that WH Administrators failed to pay claims under certain self-funded health insurance plans the company administered in Mississippi. Recent attempts by MID to reach WH Administrators to address these complaints have been unsuccessful. Chaney described the lack of communication as “a grave concern” to the Associated Press.

As a result of the complaints and documented evidence, MID has issued the Cease and Desist Order to WH Administrators enjoining it from conducting the business of insurance in this state pending a final determination by the Commissioner of Insurance.

The company has twenty days to request a hearing to challenge the Cease and Desist Order. If no such request is made the order becomes permanent. MID considers it a matter of grave concern when those it regulates fail to communicate with the department.

Anyone doing business with WH Administrators who has questions about coverage or claims may contact the Consumer Services Division at MID by calling 1-800-562-2957.
