An insurance giant is slashing nearly half the workforce at one of its Florida locations.

Farmers Insurance has filed a notice with the state that it intends to eliminate 103 positions from its Plantation, Fla. Workforce, according to a South Florida Business Journal report.

“In November of last year, we advised employees in our Plantation, Florida facility of our intention to bring teams closer and increase collaboration by better utilizing our available office space and reducing real estate vacancies,” Farmers spokesman Luis Sahagun told the Business Journal. “In advising our employees of this decision, we also shared that eligible employees choosing to re-locate to other company locations would be offered financial assistance and support.”

The layoffs are expected to begin Dec. 30 and continue for the next two weeks. Employees facing the ax include senior service advocates, senior policy service advocates and services consultants. Sixty-five of the layoffs will fall on senior service advocates, according to the Business Journal.

“We  notified our employees nearly a year in advance so that our employees and their families have as much time as possible to consider their options,” Sahagun said. “…We will continue to have approximately 140 employees at our plantation location.”

Farmers announced last month that it would lay off more than 90 employees at an Oregon facility.
