Ironshore Inc. recently named two executives—one to help out with the administration of the insurer’s Specialty Casualty retail product distribution in the Midwest, and another to handle the company’s wholesale operations in the West Coast.

David Harrell was appointed Vice President, Casualty Manager with Ironshore Specialty Casualty. He will be based in Chicago, where he will aid in the development of the insurer’s retail distribution platform of Specialty Casualty product lines across the Midwest region. Harrell reports to Tracey Sharis, Senior Vice President, Specialty Casualty.

Harrell came from Chubb/ACE USA, where he was Regional Vice President for the Midwest. Prior to that, he was an underwriting specialist with AIG. His professional career can be traced as far back as 1993, when he first served as Excess Casualty Manager in the Midwest for Chubb & Son.

“We are pleased to welcome David to Ironshore’s Specialty Casualty team,” Sharis said. “David’s wealth of experience in product distribution within the region and technical underwriting knowledge of specialty products make him ideally suited to lead our Midwest retail initiatives.”

Tara Houvenagle was chosen to assume the responsibility Wholesale West Branch Executive for the Western Region, on top of her current role as Western Region Casualty Manager. Based in St. Louis, Houvenagle will answer to President of U.S. Field Operations Joseph L. Boren for her new role.

Houvenagle will also be responsible for handling Ironshore’s distribution strategies for the wholesale business in the West Coast.

She has over 12 years of experience as a specialty underwriter in the casualty insurance industry. Houvenagle joined Ironshore’s ranks in 2009 as a senior production specialist. Later in 2014, she was promoted to Casualty Manager for the Wholesale West Region.

Before joining Ironshore, Houvenagle was associated with AIG WorldSource in Houston, where she oversaw primary casualty business lines such as general liability, workers compensation and foreign liability package programs.

"We are pleased to have Tara take on this additional responsibility, where her underwriting experience will be invaluable as we continue to build our wholesale business," Boren stated.
