QBE North America announced the appointment of Carla Owens as senior vice president for Specialty Business Group operations. She will report to QBE Specialty Insurance president Jeffrey S. Grange.

In her new leadership capacity, Owens will manage the design and implementation of QBE’s specialty operating platform (SOP).

This technology is deemed critical for the delivery of policy administration and billing functions for the firm’s specialty insurance business lines, which includes accident and health, aviation, cyber, healthcare, trade credit and transactional liability among others.

Furthermore, the platform integrates with existing financial, customer, processing and policy systems.

Owens has a proven track record as a business program manager with extensive experience in launching, directing, and managing large-scale programs and projects aimed at achieving operational, underwriting and profit efficiencies.

She holds a BA in Economics from Michigan State University and spent 15 years in Chubb, starting as underwriter and moving on to more significant roles and taking responsibility for multi-million dollar concerns.

“This appointment further underscores our focus on the customer,” Grange told reporters. “The platform enables straight-through processing, increasing the speed with which we can quote, bind and issue policies – improving the customer experience. Carla’s deep Specialty business knowledge and proven program management skills will serve us well as we work to successfully design, implement, and embed the platform into our Specialty business, laying a strong foundation to continue our aggressive growth strategy.”

QBE North America reported gross written premiums worth more than $4 billion in 2015. It is part of QBE Insurance Group Limited, a major insurance and reinsurance firm with headquarters in Australia. It operates out of 37 countries worldwide.
