The United States Coast Guard (USCG) refloated bulk carrier Rosco Palm from Hong Kong after it ran aground twice last weekend in the Columbia River near Washington.
Rosco Palm has a capacity of 82,200 dwt. It first grounded at around 8 pm Friday night and was soon refloated and moved a few miles upstream to mitigate any risk of collision. The five year old ship then ran aground a second time while anchored on a sandy bottom waiting for initial assessment, the USCG said.
Authorities reported no pollution emission coming from the carrier.
Rosco Palm is operated by Chinese Redwood Ocean Shipping.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and respond as necessary with our partners from the Washington and Oregon along with local response teams,” Lt. Cmdr. Karen Denny, inspections division chief, Marine Safety Unit Portland, told reporters.
The USCG is currently investigating the cause of grounding.
