AXIS Insurance, the business arm of AXIS Capital Holdings, has announced a new lead for its excess & surplus business in the US, it was revealed yesterday.

The insurer has appointed Marc Nance as executive vice president, excess & surplus property, where he will be responsible for growing and managing the business in the U.S. by expanding its portfolio and enhancing its strategic broker relationships.

Nance, who has four decades of experience in the industry and is one of AXIS’s longest serving employees, will replace Chris Endsley, after his recent retirement. He will be based in the Chicago office and will report directly to Carlton Maner, CEO – U.S.

“Marc is uniquely qualified to lead and grow our E&S Property business,” Maner said in a release. “He brings a wealth of commercial property insurance experience and knowledge to the role, as well as a deep understanding of AXIS’ business. Under his leadership, we expect that AXIS will continue to build upon what is already a balanced and high-quality book of business.”

Nance joined the insurer as a senior vice president of E&S Property in 2003, following the Combined Specialty Insurance Company acquisition. He was previously executive vice president, property, U.S.

After beginning his career at The Hartford, Nance previously held various management-level retail and commercial property insurance roles at Lexington Insurance Company (now part of AIG), AIG and Chubb. The new EVP earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Boston University and received a master’s degree from Cleveland State University.
