Insurance Business Australia (IB) has recognised GT Insurance's Angela Stevens (national claims manager), Michelle Domanski (claims team leader) as Elite Women for 2022. Here’s how they rose to the top of the career ladder and stood out among their peers to win IB's prestigious award.

Domanski entered the insurance industry shortly after completing her Victorian Certificate of Education. She started her insurance career at GIO's mail room and then moved to lodgements and motor vehicle claims. However, Domanski wanted to learn other aspects of insurance, so she moved to GIO's recoveries team and then branched out to work at a claims management firm, where she handled fuel contamination, material, and property damage claims for several major fuel companies.

Domanski eventually returned to managing recovery claims at IAG and Austral Mercantile before taking some time away from work to care for her two daughters. When she re-entered the insurance industry, she joined NTI as a heavy motor claims consultant. After three years, she moved to Avea as a senior claims consultant responsible for motor, insurance credit, loan termination, warranty, and GAP insurance claims.

A seasoned claims leader, Domanski has been with GT Insurance for nearly six and a half years, mostly serving as the claims team leader for Victoria and Tasmania and, more recently, as the claims team leader for Queensland.

Stevens is another seasoned claims leader in the Australian insurance industry. She entered the insurance industry at CGU in 1994 and now has 23 years of experience in the commercial sector, covering claims management, customer service, sales, staff development, and training. She has served as a national claims manager at GT Insurance for the past 11 years, responsible for the company's claims management in nine branches across Australia.

In 2021, IB named Stevens one of its Elite Women, where she shared how mentorship benefitted her.

“I have had two great mentors in my career and wouldn't be the person I am today without them, as they taught me to share knowledge and empower people,” she told IB. “I have received feedback from colleagues that when they talk to me; I always give them 100%, no matter how busy I may be. I am a great listener, non-judgmental, value diversity, and know the importance of women leaders is to lift up other women to succeed.”
