An industry body has raised concerns that the number of declined claims jumped almost 50%, prompting calls for a closer look.

there are too many complaints because consumers are buying on price at the sacrifice of cover, if they had the right cover, claims will be paid, they need to see a broker for the best advice on the covers they need.

I know the solution - Use a broker, make an informed decision on buying the insurance that fits the needs of the consumer not just shopping on price
Ban the ads that encourage shopping on price alone and make advertising informative for our industry - Have a 1 page key disclosure document on the most needed aspects of a Policy - instead of the confusing 'plain english' PDS's

exactly right DB. But if consumers want to arrange Insurance thru their supermarket(!) do you really want or need them as clients??
