An independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker has named a new group chief legal counsel.

Simon Kemp joined BMS Group from Clyde & Co, where he was partner and will continue to work part-time as consultant. Kemp is based in London and reports to Nick Cook, BMS Group CEO.

Kemp has practiced in the London market since 1984, specialising in coverage disputes with an international element, regulatory issues for businesses, and individuals and employment law. He is also currently the joint editor of Thomson Reuters’ “Law of Insurance Broking”.

“As BMS continues on a path of strategic growth and attracts talent in both established and emerging markets, the expertise and experience of individuals such as Simon becomes invaluable,” Cook said. “We have ambitious plans, both internationally and in the London market, and, with Simon in place, we are confident in the knowledge that we have one of the leading legal lights in the sector. I would like to warmly welcome Simon to BMS and look forward to working with him.”

The appointment follows the rebranding of BMS Group’s Australian wholesale broking operation to Lions Gate Placement, led by Brett Field.
