An industry professional with more than 20 years of international experience with consulting firms and major insurers has been appointed to lead the Actuaries Institute.

Elayne Grace, a fellow of the Actuaries Institute and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, has been tapped to head the institute. Grace has a track record of raising influence and awareness of the actuarial profession and the professional body. She succeeds David Bell, who resigned in late 2017.

Institute President John Evans said Grace, who has served as deputy CEO and head of public policy at the institute since 2013, “has extensive experience in public policy and has been instrumental in raising the institute’s profile with the development of strategic papers which go to the heart of major economic and social themes that affect the lives of all Australians.”

“She is passionate about leveraging opportunities for the institute and its members in key areas that benefit from the astute thinking provided by the profession,” Evans said. “In particular, she is committed to further developing the institute’s expertise and expansion in sectors such as data analytics, the economic impact of climate change, and risk management. Her vision is to build a strong actuarial profession that is in high demand now and into the future.”

“This is a very exciting opportunity for me, and I am confident that the energy, leadership and strategic ability I bring to the role will not only help build our brand but also reveal to our growing membership base the new opportunities available to them in Australia and overseas,” Grace said.
