A Keira MP has called on insurers to process and pay bushfire claims quickly to help bushfire victims on the South Coast and elsewhere get back on their feet as soon as possible.

In a letter to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA), Labor's South Coast spokesman Ryan Park urged insurers to deploy their assessors to fire-ravaged areas as soon as it was safe to do so, and quickly process both business and residential claims.

"Everyone needs to now be focused on assisting the communities impacted by this devastating firestorm and that includes insurance companies, by making sure customers are getting their claims assessed as soon as possible and funds released to enable them to begin the task of rebuilding,” Park said in an Illawara Mercury report. “Many residents and small business owners have now returned to their properties and infrastructure that has been destroyed or damaged and need all the help they can get to rebuild their lives and businesses.”
