As market demands for specialized and structured insurance solutions grow, IQUW has appointed Elisabeth Groehe (pictured left) and George Connell (pictured right) to lead its portfolio solutions division.

The two newly promoted leaders will focus on enhancing the division’s specialist risks and structured solutions offerings, which aim to provide innovative underwriting approaches to brokers, managing general agents (MGAs), and broker facilities worldwide.

Previously senior underwriter for professional lines, Groehe will take on the role of lead underwriter for specialist risks. She plans to focus on developing solutions for niche and complex risks that often face limited access to Lloyd’s capacity.

“Specialist Risk will support brokers, coverholders, and clients who have complex, niche, and emerging risks, but currently have limited access to Lloyd’s capacity, providing intelligent underwriting and a service-led approach to risk placement,” Groehe said.

Meanwhile, Connell has been promoted to lead underwriter for structured solutions. He served as senior underwriter for political violence and war since he joined IQUW in 2021.

“Not only is our team committed to collaborating with coverholders, insurers, and brokers to facilitate strategic solutions that deliver long-term value, but we will bring our own insights to create a data-driven proposition that provides quick responses to brokers and clients,” Connell said.

The portfolio solutions division is a key part of IQUW’s strategy to adapt to new ways of trading through Lloyd’s since it was launched in 2024, according to active underwriter Steven Tebbutt.

“Throughout 2024, we built relationships and partnerships that have enabled us to understand and adapt to new and alternative ways of trading through Lloyd’s. Empowering Elisabeth and George will help us meet the growing demand for these types of client solutions,” Tebbutt said.

Both Groehe and Connell will report to head of specialty Chris Wilkinson.

“Following Robbie McDonald’s recent promotion to head of property, the promotion of Elisabeth and George reinforces our commitment to developing internal talent by recognizing and empowering our team as we continue to build our proposition as a destination for underwriting, claims, and data science professionals eager to shape the future of insurance,” IQUW director of underwriting David Morris said.
