If all the wordings were the same, homeowners insurance would be a commodity, like auto, easily sold online, by direct writers. No-one would need a broker.

As a broker, it's my job to know the wordings, so I can recommend the best coverage suited to my clients' needs. It's also my job to help them understand the differences and what they are covered for. That's what sets me apart from direct writers.

So why are so many people not being covered? Is it because brokers have not done their job?
