Canadian insurance research firm Market Security Analysis (MSA) Research has announced the list of insurtech companies participating in the pitch competition at the InsurTech North event.

The InsurTech North Conference, headed by MSA Research, will be held from October 9-10, 2018. The event runs back-to-back with the National Insurance Conference of Canada (NICC) – another event organized by MSA Research that brings together leaders from across Canada’s P&C industry for a forum.

Five start-ups have been nominated by industry accelerators to participate in the event’s insurtech pitch competition:

  • Dream Payments – Nominated by MaRS. The insurtech provides cloud payments solutions that enable financial institutions and insurance companies to provide frictionless digital and mobile payment services to their end customers and business clients.
  • JAUNTIN’ – Nominated by Global Insurance Accelerator. The insurtech specializes in risk optimization, using a mobile, on-demand platform that offers higher margins and lower risk to insurers.
  • Maple – Nominated by OneEleven. Maple connects patients with physicians via an online consultation room accessible on both web and mobile, enabling immediate access to non-emergency healthcare.
  • ProNavigator – Nominated by Communitech. ProNavigator offers an AI-powered chatbot to enhance insurance customer experience; the insurtech also utilizes AI to automate business processes to enable insurers to offer their products on-demand.
  • QuantumSense – Nominated by Holt Fintech Accelerator. Another insurtech that deals with AI technology, QuantumSense provides a top semantic search engine that not only looks at keywords, but whole meanings and structures in sentences. The technology can be used in insurance to speed up the claims process, as well as to make better predictions based on existing data.

As part of the competition, the chosen insurtech start-ups will be brought before the InsurTech North “Wolf Pack,” a panel of judges which will “put the start-ups through the paces and draw out the best.” Two winners will be decided during the event – the overall winner of the competition and the start-up voted as the people’s choice. Both winners will be awarded cash prizes, MSA Research’s website said.
