The Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) has issued a response to the Northwest Territories government’s decision to permit the use of electronic proofs of auto insurance, lauding the government’s decision.

“We congratulate Northwest Territories on ensuring their drivers have access to the same convenient digital option as other drivers across Canada,” said CSIO president and CEO Catherine Smola.

Northwest Territories joins a growing number of jurisdictions – which include Nova Scotia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador – which allow the use of electronic proof of auto insurance. These proofs are also called eSlips.

The CSIO also offers its own eSlip solution, called My Proof of Insurance. Launched in February 2018, My Proof of Insurance allows insurance providers to send attachments and eSlips to personal and commercial customers via email. The solution also allows drivers to store, display, and share their eSlips in their mobile wallet on their phones – which they can later access even without an internet connection. It utilizes “bank-grade” security and the native lock screen function on smartphones to ensure data security.

Smola also said that the organization will continue to lobby for the value of eSlips.

“We continue to meet with regulators in jurisdictions across Canada to demonstrate the My Proof of Insurance solution and showcase its many features,” the chief executive said.
