Those with cottages in southeastern Manitoba who are still dealing with the last flood may have to contend with even more water, as Environmental Canada issued a special weather bulletin for the region warning of showers and thunderstorms.

The agency said that within the next couple of days, the region is expected to see rainfall amounts of between 10 and 20 mm. But Environment Canada also warned that further downpours from Monday evening into Tuesday could add another 20 to 30 mm of rainfall. It has warned that the heavy downpours could lead to flash floods and water pooling on roads, making the situation even worse for communities still recovering from the last flood.

Environment Canada’s special weather bulletin covers the areas of Bissett, Victoria Beach, Nopiming Provincial Park, Pine Falls, Sprague, Northwest Angle Provincial Forest, Steinbach, St. Adolphe, Emerson, Vita, Richer, and Whiteshell-Lac du Bonnet-Pinawa.

CBC News reported that the rain is projected to fall over areas still reeling from previous flooding, including the Red River Valley and the Winnipeg River basin. Severe overland flooding last week forced the province to order a complete evacuation of affected areas, and the new flood warnings may delay homeowners’ returns.
