Ryan Specialty appoints Sean Ryan as executive VP of Ryan Re

Ryan Specialty has announced that Sean Ryan has joined Ryan Re Underwriting Managers as executive vice president.

Ryan Re, established in 2019, operates as a managing general underwriter specializing in property and casualty treaty reinsurance.

In his new role, Sean Ryan will oversee Ryan Re’s strategic business development efforts, leveraging his extensive experience in the reinsurance sector. His appointment aims to support the growth of the company’s reinsurance operations. 

Sean Ryan (pictured above) has held senior positions across reinsurance underwriting and broking throughout his career. He previously founded Trean Intermediaries, a reinsurance-focused firm launched in 2013, where he served as president. Trean Intermediaries was acquired in 2021 by BMS, where Ryan took on the role of deputy CEO of US Reinsurance. 

Ryan Re president and CEO Emil Issavi stated that Sean Ryan’s entrepreneurial background and industry relationships will enhance the organization’s efforts.

“Additionally, before his role as an intermediary, he held key underwriting roles in both treaty and facultative businesses that supported a wide range of clients. I am proud to welcome Sean to Ryan Re and am confident he will be a tremendous asset as we continue to provide solutions to our trading partners,” Issavi said.

Sean Ryan expressed enthusiasm for joining Ryan Re and highlighted the organization’s reputation and progress since its establishment.

“In just a few short years, Ryan Re has built an expansive business with an outstanding reputation in the industry. I am looking forward to contributing to the next phase of the organization with continued focus on client solutions,” he said.

Ryan Re noted that it continues to expand its presence in the property and casualty treaty reinsurance market, seeking to deliver services and solutions to its trading partners while strengthening its leadership team.
