HDI Global Specialty has announced the appointment of Maggie Beattie (pictured) to the newly-created role of head of entertainment and contingency – Canada.

In her new role, Beattie will be focused on establishing and growing the insurer’s entertainment and contingency book across the region. She will report directly to Derek Spafford, general manager at HDI Global Specialty SE – Canada.

Beattie joins from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty where she was underwriting manager for entertainment. She brings over two decades of insurance market experience to the position and has performed several underwriting roles at RSA, GCAN, and AIG.

“I’m looking forward to driving HDI Global Specialty’s entry into this new line of business, using my knowledge and market experience,” said Beattie.

For his part, Spafford said that Beattie is “a strong addition to our growing team” and that he is pleased the group has been able to bring someone of her experience and market know-how into the business.

“She will lead our expansion into the entertainment and contingency market,” added Spafford. "We’re committed to a strategy of considered expansion into new lines of business, in addition to growing our existing portfolio. Maggie’s addition marks another important step on our growth journey in Canada.”
