An insurance company looking to review its management restructure could put New Zealand jobs at serious risk, it has been suggested.

South African insurer Youi, in a report by Stuff, said it has launched a review of its structure and staffing. The report suggested the review could result in up to five jobs being disestablished.

A Youi spokeswoman reportedly said the firm is in consultations on a proposal to “optimise the management structure” of its sales and customer service team.

While the changes could see a number of Youi’s managers move to other business areas, the firm’s frontline team will continue its service, the spokeswoman told the publication. She also added that Youi New Zealand’s 200 employees work in Auckland and it does not outsource any services overseas.

In 2016, the South African insurer was fined $320,000 in the Auckland District Court after pleading guilty to 15 charges of misleading customers.
