PartnerRe has appointed Marek Garwacki (pictured above) as non-life chief underwriting officer, effective Feb. 1.
In this role, he joins the company’s executive leadership team and will oversee underwriting strategy and portfolio management across the non-life business.
Garwacki has been with PartnerRe for more than 12 years, holding leadership positions in underwriting, strategy, and portfolio management. Most recently, he served as head of group retrocession, where he was responsible for the company's ceded reinsurance and retrocession strategy.
Prior to that, he was chief of staff, providing direct support to the group CEO and the executive leadership team in advancing company-wide initiatives.
His previous roles at PartnerRe include head of strategy and portfolio construction for specialty lines, where he provided underwriting leadership on portfolio reviews, reserving, accumulation frameworks, and underwriting guidelines. He also led several legacy reinsurance projects.
Before joining PartnerRe, Garwacki worked at AXA as deputy head of business support and development and held supervisory positions at the French Treasury and the French insurance regulator ACPR.
Garwacki holds a multidisciplinary master's degree in economics and applied mathematics from Ecole Polytechnique, a master's in economics, political science, and corporate finance from Sciences Po, and an actuarial science qualification from CEA. His actuarial research focused on longevity risk and longevity swaps under Solvency II.
A few months ago, PartnerRe also named Chris Shanahan as the new CEO of its life and health division, effective Jan. 1.
Shanahan succeeds Marc Archambault, who is retiring after serving in the role. Shanahan also joins the company’s executive leadership team.
Shanahan has been with PartnerRe for more than six years, holding several leadership roles within the company. He currently serves as CEO of North America life, a position he has held since 2021. Prior to that, he was president of US life operations and executive vice president of life corporate development.
