Carrick Group Limited has appointed Matt Brand as head of governance, reinforcing its compliance structure across Bermuda and UK operations during expansion into regulated markets.

Brand will report to chief executive officer Tom Nichols and is responsible for ensuring that Carrick’s operations comply with regulatory requirements in Bermuda and the United Kingdom.

“As Carrick continues to grow into new regulated jurisdictions, we are delighted to welcome Matt to head up our global corporate governance, ensuring that Carrick continues its regulatory excellence with consistency and transparency,” Nichols said.

Brand is based in London and joins Carrick after 10 years at Hampden Group, where he most recently served as group head of operations. He began his career in 2005 at Seymour Taylor before moving to Blick Rothenberg, where he was client manager.

“I am thrilled to lead the corporate governance function at Carrick Holdings,” said Brand. “My priority is to ensure our protocols remain rigorous and effective as we provide specialized finality solutions to the market. I look forward to leveraging my background in the sector to protect the interests of our stakeholders and support Carrick’s long-term success."

Governance developments follow ownership changes

The appointment follows developments in Carrick’s ownership and board composition. In January 2024, the company was acquired by Northlight QIAIF plc, an Irish regulated entity managed by Northlight Group LLP, from Zimmer Financial Services Group. The transaction introduced Susan Pateras, Alan Waring and Michael Watson to the board, with Watson serving as chairman, according to company disclosures at the time.

Nichols said during that transaction that the board additions were intended to support corporate governance standards.

Recent hires and transaction activity

The governance appointment follows other additions to Carrick’s leadership team. In January, the company appointed Alex Smith as senior vice president, operations, in London, and Aidan Mills as vice president of M&A in Bermuda.

Carrick has also completed transactions in the legacy market. In July 2024, its subsidiary Carrick Holdings (Cayman) Limited completed the acquisition of Health Care Casualty Insurance Limited, a Cayman Islands Monetary Authority-regulated insurer that had written excess liability and medical malpractice coverage before entering run-off in 2016.

Carrick is a Bermuda-based international non-life legacy insurance business providing reinsurance and run-off solutions, including finality solutions for insurance portfolios.
