Everest Group announced the appointment of John Howard (pictured) as an independent, non-executive member of its board of directors, effective immediately.
Howard has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance sector and in senior executive roles across the financial services industry. Most recently, he served as CEO of Truist Insurance Holdings (TIH), where he held various leadership roles over a 20-year period with the company and its affiliates.
In the sector, Howard led the US$16 billion leveraged buyout of TIH from Truist Financial Corporation, formerly BB&T Corporation. TIH ranks among the 10 largest insurance brokerages in the US, where Howard was involved in developing the company’s operating strategy and governance structure, as well as assembling its board and leadership team.
On Jan. 1, Howard stepped down as CEO of TIH and took on the role of vice chair. He continues to serve on the company’s board of managers.
Howard’s prior roles include leadership positions at Prudential Financial, GE, and Conseco, Inc. His career began in active duty service with the US Navy. In addition to his corporate background, Howard has experience with industry associations and regulatory bodies.
He serves on the Insurance Policy Committee of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers, The Institutes, and the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University.
Howard holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Columbia University and a master of business administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
