Hamilton Insurance Group has appointed Susan Steinhoff (pictured above) as chief underwriting officer at Hamilton Re, the company's Bermuda-based insurance and reinsurance underwriting platform, effective January 1, 2026.

Steinhoff brings more than 25 years of insurance industry experience to the role. She previously held senior positions at ACE, now known as Chubb, before joining Hamilton in 2014 during the company's early formation.

In her new position, Steinhoff will oversee underwriting activities across Hamilton Re and report directly to Adrian Daws, chief executive officer at Hamilton Re. The appointment follows Tim Duffin's transition to group chief underwriting officer, also effective January 1, 2026.

Steinhoff's promotion comes after leading Hamilton Re's property reinsurance team. Her responsibilities will now expand to encompass the broader underwriting function across the platform's insurance and reinsurance operations.

Daws said he was pleased to announce Steinhoff's promotion to the chief underwriting officer role. "Susan has been a key member of our executive team, leading the property reinsurance team with distinction," Daws said, adding that her expertise and client-centric approach have earned her respect across the industry.

Daws himself took on the Hamilton Re CEO position in October 2025, succeeding Megan Graves who retired at the end of 2025. Prior to his current role, Daws served as chief risk officer and chief actuary at Hamilton Global Specialty, and he now reports to group CEO Pina Albo as part of the executive management team.

He stated he looks forward to working closely with Steinhoff as she shapes the future of the underwriting function and leads the insurance and reinsurance underwriting teams.

The company announced two additional leadership changes in connection with Steinhoff's appointment. Peter Riihiluoma will succeed Steinhoff as senior vice president and head of property reinsurance at Hamilton Re.

Sergio Lottimore has been named senior vice president and head of specialty reinsurance, succeeding Riihiluoma in that position. Hamilton stated the promotions reflect the company's focus on maintaining leadership continuity and strength across its underwriting teams.

The leadership transitions occur as Hamilton Re continues to operate its underwriting platform from Bermuda. The company indicated the changes aim to strengthen its underwriting capabilities and client service delivery.
