Guy Carpenter has announced the appointment of Lukas Müller (pictured) as chairman for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, effective Sept. 1, 2025.
Müller will be based in Zurich and will be responsible for working with clients and teams across MEA markets.
Müller brings over three decades of reinsurance industry experience, with a career spanning underwriting and client management across property, casualty, and life and health reinsurance.
He joins Guy Carpenter following a 14-year tenure at Swiss Re, where he most recently served as head of MENA, Pakistan, and Francophone West Africa for both P&C and L&H. In this role, he was based in Zurich and managed underwriting and client relationships in several key territories.
Prior to that, Müller held a range of leadership roles within Swiss Re. From 2017 to 2023, he was Head of the Middle East, and from 2011 to 2023, he led market underwriting for the Middle East and Africa. He also previously held the title of Head of the Middle East and Turkey, overseeing both property and casualty and life and health portfolios.
Müller began his career at Swiss Re in the early 1990s. His earlier roles included account underwriting for proportional property and casualty treaties, property treaty underwriting, and engineering treaty underwriting. He later advanced into client management and regional leadership roles.
Guy Carpenter said that Müller will support the firm’s strategic priorities in the MEA region by advising on client engagement across all lines of business and contributing to reinsurance solutions tailored to market-specific needs.
The company’s last major appointment was in December, when the reinsurance broker brought in Cem Altuntas as managing director in the capital & advisory team. Based in the firm's New York office, Altuntas focuses on capital raising and M&A advisory services, primarily supporting clients across North America.
