PartnerRe has unveiled a sweeping leadership reshuffle across its Asia-Pacific operations, with James Beedle set to retire and three senior executives stepping into expanded reinsurance roles effective July 1, 2026, as the Bermuda-based group lines up its next generation of APAC leaders.

Sasa Hu (pictured above, left) will take on the role of chief executive officer for P&C APAC, while David Xu (pictured above, middle) will succeed her as chief underwriting officer for P&C APAC. John Mok (pictured above, right) will assume the position of chief executive officer of Partner Reinsurance Asia Pte. Ltd.

Pembroke-headquartered PartnerRe has been wholly owned by French mutual insurer Covéa since its 2022 acquisition from Exor. The reinsurer reports total capital of more than $13 billion on its financial disclosures, and has reported FY 2025 group turnover of $9.2 billion, split between $6.7 billion of non-life premiums and $2.5 billion of life and health, with net profit up 46% to $2.1 billion.

The reinsurer credited Beedle for his leadership and the imprint he leaves on its Asia footprint. "We thank James for his exceptional leadership and for the lasting impact he has made in strengthening PartnerRe's footprint in Asia," the company said.

Beedle has led PartnerRe's Asia-Pacific business as CEO since January 2017 and earlier this year took on an industry role as chair of the Singapore Reinsurers' Association, succeeding Allianz SE Reinsurance Branch Asia-Pacific's Kenrick Law.

The incoming team

Hu has spent more than 18 years at PartnerRe, most recently serving as chief underwriting officer for P&C APAC since July 2024 and as head of agriculture since February 2021. She previously held senior underwriting and pricing actuary roles across Hong Kong and Zurich, and began her career as an actuary at Allianz Australia.

She holds a bachelor's degree in commerce with a major in actuarial science from Macquarie University and a master's in applied neuroscience from King's College London.

Xu joined PartnerRe in May 2020 and has led its P&C business across Japan, Australia, New Zealand and regional clients from Singapore. His earlier career included actuarial roles at RenaissanceRe, Tokio Millennium Re and Wesfarmers Insurance, and he served as chief examiner at the Actuaries Institute in 2014. He is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and holds a bachelor of commerce from UNSW.

The new APAC team also inherits PartnerRe's recent expansion into GIFT City in Gujarat, India, where the reinsurer received regulatory approval to set up a branch. The move followed December 2025 legislative reforms that reduced the capital requirement for foreign reinsurers from ₹50 billion to ₹10 billion and permitted up to 100% foreign ownership.

Mok has been with PartnerRe since February 2021 and currently serves as chief executive officer of life and health for APAC and EMELA, a role he assumed in January 2025. Before joining the firm, he spent more than eight years at Swiss Re in client-market leadership roles across Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

His earlier career included business development positions at Reinsurance Group of America in Australia and nearly eight years at CommInsure. Mok holds both a bachelor of commerce and a master of commerce in actuarial studies from Macquarie University.
