Sompo has announced the appointment of Allan Murley (pictured right) as its new UK distribution, insurance head effective from the last quarter of the year.

“In his new role, Murley will be responsible for overseeing the coordination, development, and delivery of Sompo’s UK distribution activities across the London Market and regionally. He will be based in London and the appointment is effective in Q4,” said Sompo in a statement.

The reinsurer’s UK CEO, commercial P&C insurance, Bob Thaker also commented on the move.

“Allan is a well-known and highly respected insurance professional with a proven track record of success over many years. His experience, acumen, and understanding of the market, combined with outstanding leadership skills will help us drive momentum across Sompo’s business in the UK and support our ambitions for continued profitable growth,” he said.

Murley joined Sompo in 2019 after his stint at AXA XL as head of UK broker management. He has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, including 14 years at Zurich, before joining XL in 2014 as a client and distribution leader.

He joins as Sompo enjoys an A+ (Superior) rating from A.M. Best (XV size category) and A+ (Strong) from Standard & Poor’s. Shares of Sompo Holdings, Inc. are listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
