Willis Re has announced the appointment of Dr. Tina Thomson as part of its efforts to enhance its analytics and digital capabilities while continuing to expand its global platform.

Thomson joins from Gallagher Re, where she spent nearly a decade and most recently served as global head of digital client experience. She will be based in London.

“We’re delighted to welcome Tina to Willis Re,” said Iain Whittingham of Willis Re. “Her record of leading innovative analytics and digital transformation initiatives makes her a fantastic addition to our business. Her ability to translate complex risk insights into practical value for clients will be a significant asset as we continue to strengthen our capabilities.”

Expansion continues

The appointment is the latest in a rapid buildout at Willis Re since the joint venture launched commercial operations.

The broker has recruited roughly 80 professionals from Guy Carpenter since mid-2025, including former Bermuda CEO John Fletcher and property retrocession specialist Richard Keegan, as well as Nick Pritchard from Conduit Re

In April, Willis Re announced that Richard Jones, most recently chairman of Asia Pacific at Gallagher Re, would join in October to lead the firm’s Asia operations from Singapore, subject to regulatory approvals.

The company has also entered the global life reinsurance market, recently hiring Christian Howells from Macquarie Asset Management to lead that effort.

Analytics and industry experience

As per the company’s LinkedIn post, Thomson brings experience spanning catastrophe modeling, property and casualty insurance, reinsurance, and reinsurance broking. Before joining Gallagher Re, she held roles at MS Amlin, JBA Risk Management, and RMS.

During her time at Gallagher Re, she founded the Gallagher Research Centre, which connects the broker with academic and research institutions. She also co-founded a disaster risk management group with the Royal Geographical Society and holds chartered geographer status.

Thomson earned a Ph.D. in Geomatic Engineering from University College London and an executive MBA from Quantic School of Business and Technology. She is a fellow of the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society and was named among Insurance Business UK’s Elite Women 2025.

Willis Re was reconstituted after WTW re-entered treaty reinsurance broking through a joint venture with Bain Capital’s insurance business, BCIS.
