The country’s largest rural insurer has opened a new office in Vale of York, with NFU Mutual merging its existing Thirsk and York locations.

A report by The Press, York said the new office was officially opened by Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire Barry Dodd and will involve the appointment of new staff. It added that NFU Mutual will keep its local presence in the two locations even with the launch of the new division.

NFU Mutual operates across the UK, including Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. It has more than 300 local agency offices, as well as regional centres.

The firm is part of the mutual insurance sector which outperformed the rest of the British cover market in 2016. Growth in the sector exceeded the average market growth in six of the previous nine years, with its 2016 share of the total UK market being at its highest level since the 1990s.
