Two specialist brokers have made it into the Sunday Times’ list of private companies with fastest-growing profits.

Merseyside-based Acorn Insurance, which positions itself as a business offering motoring cover to drivers who ‘don’t quite fit the mould’, was in at number 52 on the list.

The company, which also focuses on the taxi trade, recorded profits of £5.7m in 2014, up 76% over a three-year period.
Animal Friends, the Wiltshire-based pet insurance broker set up in 1998 by Elaine Fairfax to raise funds for animal welfare charities, was at number 79 on the list.

The firm generated profits of £5.2m in 2014, at a margin of 36% with a three-year growth figure of 61.5%.

The list, published on Sunday, April 10, contained financial details of 100 companies based on their latest three years of available accounts.
