Allianz Insurance has made its first round of donations from the Allianz Sports Fund, benefiting 42 sports clubs across the country and totalling £50,000.

Each of the clubs, which have been nominated by British insurance brokers, will receive donations ranging from £500 to £3,000, the insurer said in a statement.

The Allianz Sports Fund, which was launched in March, offers financial support for community sports in the UK. This initiative allows brokers to support their local grassroots sports club by nominating them to receive a grant from Allianz. The grants will be used to help the clubs continue to provide opportunities within their local community and ease the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each of the 42 clubs will also receive a package with branded water bottles, towels and other sports equipment from Allianz.

“Thank you for granting our club these funds,” said Lee Jones, chairman of Silhillians Rugby Football Club, one of the recipient clubs. “With them we will continue to provide support and development through rugby to our local women and underprivileged children.”

The second round of donations will be held in November, and nominations from brokers are open until August 02.

“Allianz has supported sport through our various sponsorships for many years and we’re delighted to be able to support grassroots sports too,” said Carolyn Rich, head of brand and social responsibility, Allianz Insurance. “As the Worldwide Insurance Partner for the Olympic and Paralympic Movements, we understand the power of sport. We hope people are encouraged to get out and make the most of these sports clubs.

“We are also proud to support our brokers to connect with their local communities. We feel this is a great opportunity to bring the two together, and we cannot wait to get together and choose the next lucky group of clubs to benefit from this.”
