Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) is wasting no time with its charitable efforts – launching a new project with WaterAid after just concluding another.

Following its successful initiative in Madagascar, which involved more than £350,000 in funds, LSM now wants to help Rwanda. The Madagascar project brought clean water to over 42,000 people, as well as sanitation to about 15,000.

“Madagascar marked the first time Liberty Specialty Markets has been involved in a major charitable infrastructure project like this,” noted Mark Fidler (pictured), head of corporate social responsibility at LSM. “It’s been a uge undertaking and we’re proud to have made a tangible difference to the lives of thousands of people – it’s one of our strategic goals to help communities prosper.

“We’ve also been deeply impressed with the team at WaterAid and their determination to bring positive change to the countries in which they work.”

The projects run for three years, with LSM putting forward an annual corporate donation and staff also contributing by conducting fundraising events.

“We’re very grateful to everyone at Liberty Specialty Markets for their tremendous support,” said Marcus Missen, director of communications and fundraising at WaterAid. “The funds they have raised are helping transform lives in Madagascar by making clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene a normal part of everyday life.

“We look forward to the next chapter of our partnership and working together to continue making a difference to some of the world’s poorest communities.”

In Rwanda, the collaboration aims to benefit 80,000 school children by 2021.
