“The support we receive from the Worshipful Company of Insurers (WCI) is invaluable.”

That’s how The Brokerage executive director Bridget Gardiner described their decade-old partnership with the livery company, which has been instrumental in them helping more than 8,000 young people annually. These disadvantaged Londoners are introduced to financial and professional services, and are afforded employability skills and paid work opportunities.

“With the government’s National Careers Strategy stating that schools should offer every young person at least seven encounters with employers during their secondary education, we’re thrilled that our collaboration has led to opportunities for thousands of bright, young people, who simply needed the correct information, guidance, and support to achieve their career potential,” added Gardiner.

John Young, chair of the WCI Charitable Trust, said it has been their “pleasure and privilege” to assist the social mobility charity during the last 10 years.

“Fulfilment of The Brokerage’s mission should be dear to the hearts of all of us who believe that the keys to success in life should be ability and hard work rather than any accident of family or social background,” stated Young, who along with WCI look forward to continuing the relationship.

Based in the City of London, The Brokerage has been building links between employers and the local communities surrounding the financial districts since 1996. It said preparations are in place for the start of next year’s summer placement programme, which is part-funded by the livery company.
