Tasker Insurance Group (TIG) has secured its first major partnership with a charity – it has secured a deal with Mind, one the country’s leading mental health charities.

According to the firm, the initiative was decided on by staff members during TIG’s inaugural conference. Four different sectors were presented to them: mental health, children and young people, elderly people and medical research. The mental health sector received an overwhelming 86% of votes, and it was then announced that Mind would be the charity of choice for the next 12 months.

Figures from TIG show that 16 million people in the UK are currently living with a mental health problem and the average wait time for young people to receive effective treatment is 10 years. However, just 6% of the UK’s health research spending goes to mental health.

“It was staggering to learn that one in four people suffer with mental health - in an organisation like ours with roughly 80 staff members that could result in 20 staff suffering with mental health problems. Mental health has really come to the fore in recent times, quite rightly gaining significant public support and meaning that it is losing its social stigma,” said TIG CEO Robert Organ. “[A]s an organisation, we will do everything we can to support our own staff while they undertake fun activities to raise money for Mind.”

Karen Bolton, head of community and events fundraising for mind, said TIG’s support will help Mind’s vital services including the Mind infoline, information and advice services, and its campaign that the one in four of Brits who experience a mental health problem each year gets both support and respect.
