Covéa Insurance has appointed Richard Heathcote – who was fundamental in creating the insurer’s real estate product three years ago – as regional lead underwriter.

The underwriting veteran previously served as senior technical underwriter, part of the growing real estate team in Covéa Insurance’s Leadenhall office. Heathcote, a former AXA executive, has more than two decades of industry experience.

“Over the past three years, the real estate team in London has established itself as a valued partner in the market,” said London branch manager Gareth Roberts. “We have built our reputation around face-to-face communication which has helped secure strong relationships with the brokers we trade with, enabling us to deliver a dedicated service to each of them.”

Roberts continued: “Richard’s appointment shows our continued investment in our real estate proposition; his expertise in the sector will complement the excellent skills we already have in the team and give brokers immediate access to another decision-maker within the division.”

The insurer’s real estate product caters to commercial property owners and provides cover for property damage and property owners liability, as well as loss of rent, employers liability, and legal expenses. Covéa Insurance has 10 offices across the UK and employs around 1,500 people.
