Allianz is about to go hybrid, after securing a new vehicle fleet deal with major carmakers Toyota and Lexus.

The agreement, which will be in place until 2023, sees Allianz receive a fleet of up to 200 vehicles a year as it moves away from diesel power and across to Toyota’s technology. In total, Allianz has more than 800 employee fleet company car drivers in the UK, with its team of engineer surveyors racking up an average yearly travel of 6,000,000 business miles. As such it is hoped that the move will seriously boost the environment.

“At Allianz we are committed to creating a more sustainable future,” said Bettina Gross, head of procurement at Allianz Insurance. “I’m delighted that our large vehicle fleet is a key area of our business where we can take positive steps to reduce our environmental impact.

“We have been impressed by the real-world efficiency of the Toyota and Lexus hybrids, the quality of the vehicles and the reliable and thorough support the company provides for its fleet customers.”

Meanwhile, Stuart Ferma, the general manager of Toyota and Lexus Fleet Sales, note that the move would give Allianz “quality, durability and reliability” as well as assisting the environment.

Allianz hopes the move will further its reputation – the group is the number one insurer on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
