Just Travel Cover and Beazley reveal new partnership to address terrorism fears

A partnership between Just Travel Cover, a specialist firm that works with brokers and insurers across the UK, and insurer Beazley, is giving brokers access to travel insurance that will cover clients for disruption caused by an act of terrorism.

Revealing the new scheme, the two firms said that recent terror attacks – including those in Barcelona, Paris and New York – have left many tourists “feeling uneasy” about visiting certain locations.

While many travel insurance policies do not provide cover for visitors caught up in such events, Beazley Gold policies will provide the terrorism extension as standard – meaning brokers do not need to offer policy extensions or add-ons.

Brokers have been under increased pressure as traveller fears over terrorism have grown, Daley Gore, head of broker development at Just Travel Cover, told Insurance Business.

“Following the recent attacks, particularly those in France and Germany, we had a spike in calls from brokers asking if their clients who were due to travel to those destinations would be covered for re-arrangement or cancellation,” he said.

“The development of this scheme allows brokers to provide that level of cover, something which is firmly at the front of the modern traveller’s mind in light of recent tragic events.”

The specialist scheme offers cover should a terrorist attack take place while in a destination, allowing clients to claim for injury, loss or damage to possessions and curtailment. It will also provide coverage should the UK government issue advice not to travel, providing clients with the flexibility to rearrange or cancel without the fear of losing out financially.

“Beazley’s personal accident team has years of experience of providing terrorism cover and we are pleased to be able to extend our offering to Just Travel Cover customers who, in these uncertain times, will receive a further level of reassurance when making their travel plans,” Nick Newman, personal accident focus group leader at Beazley, said.

For Just Travel Cover, the partnership – described as “long-term” – is the latest addition to its panel of A-rated insurers.

“We’re always looking to grow our panel in response to changing demands of the brokers we work with and their clients,” Gore said.

“As well as our position as medical screening experts, we’re committed to allowing brokers the flexibility to offer policies which meet the expectations of the modern-day traveller; while the thirst for travel continues to grow, tragic events such as terrorist attacks have led to a rise in expectation of what a standard policy covers.”

Beazley Travel bronze, silver and gold policies all offer a standard terrorism extension which includes injury during the trip and loss or damage to personal possessions. The additional terrorism cover is only included as standard on Beazley Travel Gold policies.
