Pool Re has appointed Katy Huang to the newly-created role of head of digital transformation, effective immediately.

Huang leads the design and implementation of Pool Re’s digital strategy, overseeing both the in-house IT team and outsourced partners. She reports to Tracey Paul, Pool Re chief strategy and communications officer.

According to the UK terrorism reinsurer, it created this new role as part of its long-term strategy to make digital technology a central aspect of the company. Huang focuses on optimising the firm’s technical processes and the development and implementation of digital products.

Huang has over 20 years’ experience in management consulting, with a focus on the re/insurance industry. Since 2013, she has worked as an independent consultant with several large firms such as Hiscox, Charles Taylor Adjusting and Bought By Many. Prior to that, Huang had a five-year stint as business manager for Beazley’s political risk, stand-alone terrorism and contingency group, where she led the digitalisation of the insurer’s underwriting process and broking network.

Earlier in her career, between 2000 and 2008, Huang held roles at Lloyds Banking Group, Moet Hennessy Diageo China and McKinsey & Company.

“At Pool Re, technology and innovation are the key drivers of what we offer our clients,” said Paul. “We are keen to optimise Pool Re’s operations through new digital initiatives and to advocate best digital practice across all levels within the company. Katy will be instrumental in designing our digital strategy and advising on the internal digital change management. Her technical background and experience in the industry will be a great asset to the team and we are very pleased to announce her appointment.”
