Specialist Risk Group (SRG), which has been building its managing general agent capability, has snapped up Irish liability and property MGA Blackrock Insurance Solutions for an undisclosed sum.

In a release, SRG said the transaction further demonstrates the group’s commitment to the broker market in Ireland and is part of its ongoing investment in specialist underwriting and technical expertise.

“We are thrilled to further support our Irish broker partners through the acquisition of Blackrock Insurance Solutions,” commented SRG group chief executive Warren Downey (pictured). “The Blackrock team is a group of genuine specialists who add tremendous value and expertise to the group’s underwriting capability.”

Based in Dublin and now on its fifth year of trading, the acquired MGA represents insurers in Ireland, the UK, and continental Europe.

“I believe SRG is an exciting home for our business, as we look to our next stage of growth,” stated Blackrock managing director Neil McSherry. “We are very much looking forward to joining forces with Warren, Lee, and the team to continue to service our brokers within the Irish market.”

Also happy with the swoop is Specialist Risk Underwriting Solutions CEO Lee Anderson, who believes McSherry’s camp is joining at an exciting time.

“We remain committed to supporting Irish brokers with their specialist risks, and our acquisition of Blackrock solidifies this commitment,” said Anderson.
